Description
This project concerns the critical edition of the corpus of the cantatas of Alessandro Scarlatti, which is both limited in quantity (it consists of fifteen cantatas) and interesting in terms of quality for its numerous references to the operatic style, which make it unique in the panorama of the time.
The edition includes an updated list of all the cantatas for voice, two violins and continuo, a morphological analysis of each piece, a list of available editions of the cantatas and a very useful and previously unpublished discography.
The critical apparatus and the detailed description of the sources help to provide the scholar – but above all the performer – with a working tool that offers everything that may be useful for a restoration of the piece that is as close as possible to the author’s wishes.
