With the piece “dei distratti”, written for the 2024 edition of Napoli InCanta, “…di sogni” shares not only the instrumentation—children’s voices and piano—but also the textual source. This time, however, the composer has not set an entire poem by Chiara Mallozzi to music; instead, he has reworked, expanded, and reshaped a wonderful poetic miniature.

The piece is an ode to Nature, built from images that possess the veiled delicacy of a pastel barely touching the paper. One might imagine a children’s picture book with light, ethereal drawings, few words, and a richness of line: the spaces traced by soft harmonies and the curved, sinuous lines of the quatrains that permeate the instrumental texture support and guide a simple, pure song along a path that touches the elements of Nature with the unspoiled innocence of a child.

A small hand gently caresses these pages to uncover their deeper meaning, to reconnect with a bond that is still intact—almost instinctive—with the surrounding world; to offer the Elements a song, time, a caress, and above all, a gaze made …of dreams.
