When I was asked to compose a piece for the Napoli InCanta festival, dedicated to love for our Earth and for the gifts it offers us every day, I asked Elisa Gastaldon to write a poem that could speak to children in a direct and engaging way. Elisa created Nelle mie mani (In My Hands), a text rich in evocative images that helps young listeners imagine nature as something precious, close, and magical.

Her words convey both gratitude for what the planet gives us and a strong sense of responsibility to take care of it, as the refrain reminds us: “they are gifts in my hands.” The poem also includes a change of rhythm which, in the musical setting, becomes a shift in metre between the verses and the refrain.

The refrain begins with greater energy, while the melody—gentle and immediately memorable—gains a slightly more incisive character, reinforcing the central message of the piece: respect for nature, appreciation of diversity, and care for the world and for all the beings who inhabit it.
